Chelsea 0-1 Manchester City: Khadija Shaw's goal ends Blues' unbeaten home run

Lauren James shines for Lionesses despite Chelsea defeat

Manchester City move level on points with leaders Arsenal

Manchester City ended Chelsea's long unbeaten home run in the Women's Super League with a 1-0 victory at Kingsmeadow on Sunday.

Khadija Shaw's first-half goal was enough to separate the two sides, with the Jamaican forward pouncing on a loose ball in the Chelsea defence to fire home from close range.

The result moves City level on points with leaders Arsenal, who have a game in hand. Chelsea remain in third place, three points behind their rivals.

Chelsea started the game brightly and had the majority of the possession in the opening stages. However, it was City who created the better chances, with Shaw and Lauren James both going close.

City took the lead in the 37th minute when Shaw pounced on a loose ball in the Chelsea defence to fire home from close range.

Chelsea pushed for an equaliser in the second half, but they were unable to find a way past the City defence. The visitors held on to secure a valuable three points.

Lauren James was one of Chelsea's best players on the day, despite the defeat. The England international was a constant threat down the left flank and created several chances for her teammates.

James' performance was a reminder of her quality and why she is one of the most exciting young players in the WSL.
