26000 Evacuated As Fast Moving Flames Spread

Northern California Wildfire Threatens Homes, Forces Evacuations

26,000 evacuated as fast-moving flames spread

Zero percent containment as of Wednesday morning

Fast-moving flames engulfed several homes and vehicles in Northern California on Wednesday, forcing the evacuation of approximately 26,000 people.

The Thompson Fire, named after the nearby Thompson Road, began Tuesday afternoon near the town of Paradise. As of Wednesday morning, the fire had grown to over 1,000 acres and was zero percent contained, according to the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CalFire).

The fire has destroyed multiple homes and outbuildings in the communities of Paradise, Butte Creek Canyon, and Magalia. Several vehicles have also been destroyed, and there are reports of injuries.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. However, strong winds and dry conditions have contributed to its rapid spread.

Evacuations have been ordered for the communities of Paradise, Butte Creek Canyon, Magalia, and parts of Chico. Evacuation centers have been established at the Chico State University campus and the Silver Dollar Fairgrounds in Chico.

Firefighters are working to contain the fire, but strong winds and dry conditions continue to pose challenges. Residents are urged to stay informed about the latest evacuation orders and to follow the instructions of local authorities.

This wildfire is a reminder of the importance of wildfire preparedness. Residents of wildfire-prone areas should have an evacuation plan in place and should be aware of the risks associated with living in these areas.
